Terms of use

These terms apply to everyone who uses Fanxy. Please read them before you create an account.

1. What this is

Fanxy is a fantasy football game. You build a squad of footballers, play simulated matches against the computer or against other members, and can open or place bets on matches between members.

Everything in the game runs on virtual points. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy notice.

How the game works, with the fees, rewards and limits that apply right now, is on the How to play page.

2. Points are virtual

Points exist only inside Fanxy. They have no cash value.

  • Points cannot be bought. There is nothing to pay for on this site.
  • Points cannot be withdrawn, sold or exchanged for money, goods or services.
  • Stakes, bets, entry fees and prizes in the game are all counted in points. Nobody wins or loses money by playing.

Fees, rewards and limits are settings of the game. The operator can change them at any time, and a change applies from then on.

3. Who can play

You must be 18 or older to create an account and use Fanxy. By creating an account you confirm that you are.

Only use the game if taking part is allowed where you live. Checking that is your responsibility.

4. Your account

An account is for one person. Do not share it, and do not create more accounts for yourself.

The site limits how many accounts can be created from one device and from one network.

You sign in with the email address or phone number of your account, and your password. You can change them in Profile. Keep your password to yourself: what happens in your account is your responsibility.

Your username and your team names are shown to other members. A name that pretends to be staff or the product itself is refused. So is a username that another account already has, also when it is written with different capital letters.

You can stop playing at any time and close your account yourself in Profile, once nothing of yours is still in play: no bet you opened or staked on that is not settled yet, no accepted match that is still to be played, and no tournament you are entered in that has not finished. The page lists whatever is still in the way. A suspended account cannot close itself until the suspension ends, and a staff account must have its staff role removed first.

A closed account is signed out everywhere and can no longer sign in. Challenges still waiting for an answer, both the ones it received and the ones it sent, are closed; every stake goes back to the member who sent the challenge. Its points stay with it. Its name stays on matches already played and on bets already settled, but the account is left out of the leaderboards and of the prizes paid when a weekly or monthly board closes. An account that staff close while it is entered in a tournament is also left out of that tournament’s ranking and prizes. On a board that became final before the account was closed, its row stays where it finished, keeps the prize it was paid, and is shown as a closed account, without the name.

You cannot reopen a closed account yourself. Staff can reopen it, or remove its personal data, when its owner asks; this site has not published a support contact yet.

Removing personal data cannot be undone, and an account whose data has been removed can never be reopened. The Privacy notice says what is removed and what is kept.

5. Fair play

The game is only fair if everyone plays by the same rules. These are not allowed:

  • Creating or using several accounts to collect bonuses, rewards or prizes more than once.
  • Arranging matches or bets with other people in order to move points from one account to another.
  • Using scripts, bots or other automated tools to play, bet or collect rewards.
  • Trying to break, overload or get around the limits and security of the site.
  • Pretending to be another person, or a member of staff.

The same-device rule: accounts that have used the same device earn no invitation reward from each other, their matches against each other do not count for ranking (Elo, the weekly and monthly boards, and tournament boards), and matches and bets between them do not count towards missions.

So that two accounts cannot hand each other wins, only a limited number of challenge matches between the same two accounts count for ranking each game day. A match that does not count is still played, and its stakes and the bets on it are settled as usual; it also adds nothing to the wins, draws and defeats shown in a profile. The number that applies right now is on the How to play page.

Automated checks also flag unusual activity for staff to review. A flag does not change your account by itself.

6. What staff can do

This is the full list of what staff of Fanxy can do to an account, a match, a bet, a tournament and the game itself, followed by the limits they work under.

Accounts

  • Suspend an account, until a set time or until further notice, and leave a message that the member sees. A suspended account is signed out and can sign in again. It can look around, change its password and sign out its devices, but it cannot play, bet, change squads, collect rewards, change its sign-in email or phone, or close itself.
  • Ban an account permanently, and leave a message that the member sees. A banned account is signed out and can no longer sign in. Its challenges that are still waiting for an answer, both received and sent, are closed, and every stake is returned in full to the member who sent the challenge. It is left out of the leaderboards and of the prizes paid when a weekly or monthly board closes. A tournament it has entered goes ahead, but an account that is still banned when the tournament ends gets no rank and no prize there; its entry fee stays in the prize pool, and comes back only if every entry fee of that tournament is returned. Matches it has already accepted, bets it opened and stakes it placed are not touched: they go ahead and are settled as usual.
  • Lift a suspension or a ban, close an account when its owner asks for it, and reopen a closed account.
  • Add points to an account or remove points from it, to correct an error or to take back points gained unfairly. Staff can add a note that the member sees in their transaction history. A large adjustment takes effect only after a senior administrator other than the person who asked for it has approved it.
  • Create a password reset link for an account. The link works once and for a limited time; the member sets the new password, and staff never see it. An unused link also stops working when a newer link is created, when the account’s password, sign-in email or phone, or role changes, when its two-step sign-in is reset, and when the account is banned or closed. No link can be created for a closed account.
  • Change or remove the email address or phone number an account signs in with. The change always leaves the account at least one of the two, and the account is signed out on every device afterwards.
  • Change a member’s username, for example a name that imitates staff or is abusive. The new name replaces the old one everywhere it is shown, including on past leaderboards.
  • Reset a team name to a neutral one. The new name replaces the old one on the team and on leaderboards. Bets opened earlier on that team’s matches still show the old name: the name of a bet is not changed with it, and the frozen line-up of a match cannot be edited.
  • Give an account a staff role, or take it away. The account is signed out on every device.
  • Reset the two-step sign-in of a staff member who can no longer use it.
  • Erase the personal data of a closed account when its owner asks for it. This cannot be undone. The Privacy notice says what is removed and what is kept.

Matches, bets and tournaments

  • Void a bet that has not been settled, for example a bet with an abusive name. Every stake is returned in full and the member who opened the bet gets the whole escrow back. The bet page shows the reason staff wrote for members; for a bet voided before staff were asked to write one, it shows a general sentence instead.
  • Change the odds of an outcome while a bet is still taking stakes. Bets already placed keep the odds they were placed at, and the odds of an outcome are never lowered once it has stakes.
  • Cancel a challenge, or an accepted match between two members, as long as it has not been played. Each player gets back exactly the stake they put up, and every bet on the match is voided with all stakes returned.
  • Open a tournament, and cancel one that has not finished. On cancellation every entry fee is returned in full, and the tournament’s page shows the reason.
  • Run the automated checks, and review the flags they raise: mark a flag as under review, confirmed or dismissed, with a written note. Neither a flag nor its review changes an account; any step that follows is one of the actions in this list.

The game and the site

  • Change the settings of the game: fees, rewards and limits, formations, computer levels, and the players’ data and prices.
  • Edit the site notice and the support contact that everyone sees.

Limits on staff

A staff account has one of two roles: administrator, or senior administrator (super admin). The limits below are enforced by the game itself; they are not left to the staff member.

  • No staff member can suspend, ban, close or reopen their own account, adjust their own points, change their own role, or create a password reset link or reset two-step sign-in for themselves.
  • An administrator cannot act on the account of another administrator; only a senior administrator can. Only a senior administrator can change roles, reset two-step sign-in or erase personal data.
  • The account of a senior administrator is out of reach of the admin pages altogether. Nobody can use them to change its status, role, sign-in email or phone, username, team names or two-step sign-in, to adjust its points, or to create a password reset link for it. Only the operator of the server, with a command run on the server, can change its role, reset its two-step sign-in or create a password reset link for it; anything else can be done only after that command has given the account a lower role. The senior administrator role itself can be granted from the admin pages only while fewer than two accounts hold it (a suspended account still counts), and only to an account that is active; from the third one on, the operator of the server grants it.
  • A large point adjustment, and a tournament with a large guaranteed prize, take effect only after a senior administrator other than the person who asked for them has approved them. Nobody approves their own request.
  • A staff member cannot void a bet, or change its odds, if they opened that bet or hold a stake on it that has not been settled. A staff member who has changed the odds of a bet cannot stake on that bet afterwards.
  • A staff member cannot cancel a match they play in, or a match on which they have opened a bet or hold a stake that has not been settled.
  • The account that created a tournament cannot enter it. A staff account cannot enter a tournament that has a guaranteed prize. A staff member who is entered in a tournament cannot cancel it.
  • Nobody reviews a flag that names their own account. A flag that names the account of an administrator or a senior administrator, even only as a related account, can be reviewed only by a senior administrator who is not named in it.

The record

Every action in this list is written to an audit log, together with the account of the staff member who took it, the time, and the reason, which the staff member has to type. The one exception is starting a run of the automated checks: it needs no typed reason and changes no account. A command the operator runs on the server is written to the log too, with its reason but with no staff account. The log can only be added to; its entries cannot be edited or deleted.

What the game does by itself on a schedule is not a staff action: starting and settling matches, closing challenges that were not answered in time, settling bets, voiding the bets on a cancelled match, closing boards and paying their prizes, ending tournaments, running the automated checks, and ending a suspension that has run out. It follows the rules on the How to play page.

7. Matches and results

Matches are simulated by the game. Their results do not come from real football matches.

For a match between two members, the result comes from two things: a seed, which is a random value the game creates when the challenge is sent, and the two line-ups, which are frozen when the challenge is accepted. The seed is kept secret until the match has been settled, because knowing it would mean knowing the result.

When the seed is created, the game also fixes its SHA-256 hash, and it shows that hash before the match. The two players see the beginning of it on the challenge, from the moment the challenge is sent. Every member can read it in full on the page of a bet on the match.

After the match has been settled, the seed itself is shown: to the two players on the match result page, and to every member on the page of a bet on the match.

To check, put the seed, exactly as written, through any SHA-256 tool. The output must be the hash that was shown before the match; a player who only has the beginning that the challenge shows checks that the output begins with it. Compare it only with that hash: other codes on the result page are different values. If the two are equal, the seed was not replaced after the challenge was sent. The challenge is no longer listed once the match has been played, so a player who wants to compare should note the hash beforehand, or read it on the page of a bet on the match, where it stays. The game has no tool for replaying a match yourself.

Once a match is settled, its result and the points paid for it are final. Staff cannot change the result of a played match or void a settled bet. What they can do before that, and how they can correct an account’s points, is listed above.

8. No affiliation

Fanxy is an independent game. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Premier League, any football club or any player.

The names, photos and statistics of clubs and players belong to their owners and are shown only to identify them.

9. Changes

The game may be changed, paused or closed. Features, fees and rewards may be added or removed.

When these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them.

Points in Fanxy are virtual: they cannot be bought, cashed out or exchanged for money.
